The Night Of The Nor'easter

The winds came from nowhere.

Another surprise nor’easter.

We get a lot of them here each fall

so I am prepared for them now.

As usual the power went out,

I lit candles and wood stove

for light and warmth.

Covered up with several blankets,

listening to the outside wind and rain.

The outside elements

almost caused me to miss

the knock at my front door.

A soaked lady was standing there,

I rushed her in from the nor’easter.

Brought here over to the wood stove,

gave her a heavy blanket for warmth.

Boiling water for hot chocolate,

a comforting drink for us both.

Not knowing when the power would return,

we both relaxed and talked

throughout the early evening

like old, comfortable friends

though we were strangers.

In a gentle moment, our eyes met,

hands touched tenderly, safely.

Passionately, our spirits and bodies

became intertwined, being one.

Sharing intimate emotions and skin

into the windy, rainy night.

In the early morning, I woke alone.

Listening to the remaining embers of the stove,

a piece of me knew I would

never see her again.

Smiling, I would have the memory

of the stormy, tender night of the nor’easter.
